Botox Injection

Wrinkles that appear on the face and neck when excessive will interfere with appearance. These wrinkles are not only found in old age, but can appear at a relatively young age due to excessive expression of facial muscles.

In addition to wrinkle problems, excessive sweat production or hyperhidrosis can also interfere with a person's activities. Botox injection in problem areas of the body can overcome the problem of wrinkles or hyperhidrosis.

What is Botox? How does it work?

Botox (Botulinum toxin) is a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This toxin causes weakness in the muscles. In the cosmetic field, injecting botox in very small doses of the facial muscles and the problematic neck will result in weakness in the problematic muscles, so that wrinkles will diminish or disappear and the face will look younger due to the loss of wrinkles.

Botox used in the Surabaya Skin Center clinic is a product that has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, and has been thoroughly researched and safely used for more than 10 years.

What are the indications for Botox injection? Botox can be used to overcome:

  • Wrinkles on the forehead / between 2 eyebrows (frown lines)
  • Wrinkles around the eyes or forehead (crow’s feet)
  • Wrinkles on the forehead (forehead wrinkles)
  • Wrinkles in the neck (platysma band)

In addition to the above indications, abnormalities that can be overcome by Botox injection are:

  • Excessive sweating production (hyperhidrosis) in the armpits or in the palm of the hand.
  • Masseter hypertrophy (square jaw shape due to habits that encourage the jaw muscles to work harder).

What is the Botox injection procedure?

The doctor will examine and explain in advance about the wrinkles that you experience, after that will determine how many doses (units) are needed. After you approve, Botox will be injected sequentially into a group of muscles that cause wrinkles to form, using a small needle.

How long does the procedure last? Does it cause pain?

The Botox injection procedure requires only a short time (about 20 minutes, depending on the area injected) and is relatively painless, such as being bitten by a mosquito because of the effect of the syringe. Therefore commonly referred to as 'lunchtime procedure' because it can be done on the sidelines of lunch and after that you can move as usual.

What to do after Botox injection?

After injection, the head must always be in an upright position for 3-4 hours (may not bow or prostrate). During this time you must frequently move the facial muscles that have been injected or through facial expressions. Do not rub the skin or massage it where the injection has been done.

When will the Botox effect be seen? How long will the effect last? Does it need to be repeated?

Botox effects will begin to appear 3-4 days after injection. The maximum effect will appear two weeks afterwards. At this time, if there are still visible wrinkles, you will be evaluated again.

The doctor will determine whether you can do the repeat injection (touch-up) or other therapies need to be done to overcome deep wrinkles such as filler action. The effect of botox on wrinkles will last for 3-4 months and will decrease gradually within 6 months, depending on your muscle activity. If this happens, you can repeat the Botox injection.

What side effects can be caused?

The Botox injection procedure is a relatively safe procedure. Side effects are very rare, usually caused by injection procedures and are temporary, such as discomfort (pain) because of the syringe, a little swelling and bruising, but can be covered with make-up.

Can this procedure be combined with other cosmetic procedures?

To overcome the problem of photoaging or premature aging (patches of pigmentation, large pores, rough skin texture), a combination of cosmetic measures is needed. Botox injection procedures can be combined with other cosmetic procedures such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, filler injection, laser rejuvenation, and others. Consult with your doctor in advance, to arrange additional procedures needed.
